Training to Capable

During your time from training to capable you again have two responsibilities:

  1. To roleplay a growing confidence and body of knowledge about dragons and their injuries. You might be starting to give riders a bit of advice about a wrenched muscle. You might start to give answers at the dragonhealing classes rather than just asking questions. You probably will be starting to look for more serious injuries and leave much of the numbweed slathering to others. You might bring strange and wonderful questions to your Senior dragonhealer. You might get into an argument (with OOC consent) with a rider about feeding his/her dragon too much. That doesn't mean that other people will yet have confidence in you though! They might look over your head and say, 'so where _is_ the Senior anyway?' Once again, the burden for making your roleplaying fun and canonical is on you.
  2. To refine your understanding of consensual roleplaying. Especially as it relates to riders and their dragons. Riders are pretty picky about what people say about their dragons, and it's important to respect that. At the same time you might be defining your boundaries about how much notice you want before roleplay a plot, etc. All this is very vague, but that's how it is for everyone - weyrlings graduating into the fighting wings, for example. OOCly you're figuring out how to get people involved in roleplaying that you can all enjoy.

Again, you probably don't want to rush this stage. Having a character learn things and then become confident in applying that knowledge provides a lot of opportunities for roleplay: use them! The elation at watching the dragon whose wing you actually helped stitch - or stitched while the senior was watching - actually fly! Now _there's_ cause for some jubilation and celebration! But it's up to you to ask the senior to watch you stitch, and to arrange for a dragon or NPC-dragon to get injured!

When you feel that your character is ready, then you once again sit down with the senior to discuss it. The burden is still on you to decide this point, and the burden is still on the senior to agree. Then the senior will give you a final test - two roleplaying exams of injuries. Guidelines for what you need to show in these exams will be provided to you. If your roleplaying is solid and your character's development seems reasonable, you will be given the experience level of capable.

Capable dragonhealers are able to roleplay confident healing of dragons in all situations, and can ground riders ICly, as they have now gotten the 'respect of the Weyr' in dragonhealing and the riders will respect that their "prescriptions" are not given lightly.
